Many Felicitations Ada Lovelace

Monday, 10 December 2012

Today, December 10th, marks 197 years since the borth of Ausgusta Ada King, better known as Ada Lovelace.  The estranged daughter of the poet Lord Byron, Ada Lovelace is by some considered the first computer programmer, and features in a number of steampunk works.

Ada Lovelace's designation as the first computer programmer came as a result of work she did for Charle's Babbage's unfinished Analytical Engine.  It would have been the world's first mechanical computer and Ada Lovelace wrote an algorithim that could have been used on it, though obviously it never got used.

With her father the notorious Lord Byron and her role in the borth of computing, Ada Lovelace is a quintessential steampunk heroine.
